We’ve compiled a list of five beaches around Selong Belanak that locals love and travellers often miss.

Pantai Selong Belanak

Selong Belanak is the heart of the area—and for good reason. With a long curve of soft white sand, gentle waves, and a backdrop of green hills, Selong Belanak is ideal for first-time visitors, beginner surfers and families as it provides the biggest natural playground in Lombok. 

Why Visit?

1. Perfect beach for swimming and baby waves for beginner surfers
2. Home to friendly local warungs (beach cafés)
3. Great spot to watch water buffalo stroll past at sunset

Whether you’re grabbing grilled fish from a local warungs (small local restaurant), beach dining at Laut Biru, chasing waves for the first time, or building a castle with a kid - this beach offers a little bit of this and a little bit of that.

And the highlight show comes with the water buffalos, parading as on fashion show throughout the beach (almost everyday around 5pm.)

Pantai Mawi & Semeti

Just a 15-minute scooter ride west of Selong Belanak, Pantai Mawi is a wild beauty. It’s a top surf spot in Lombok thanks to its powerful reef break—but also a peaceful place when the tide is low. 

Right next to Pantai Mawi, you’ll find Pantai Semeti - hidden and surreal, often compared to a natural fortress, with Lava formed rocks and crystal clear tide pools that look like a scene from Superman’s planet Cryptonite. 

Why it's not to be missed:

Mawi

1. A paradise for experienced surfers
2. Fewer tourists, more natural vibes
3. Dramatic hills and rocky outlooks for photos

Semeti &Telewas

1. Visit when it’s low tide as you can experience tide pools
2. Viewpoints over rugged rocks
3. Full of beautiful shells - but don’t take them.

Before visiting, be sure to check the tides. To reach Semeti, you’ll follow the same dirt road as Mawi but make sure you look for locally made signs to help with navigating the way.  

**Get ready - bumpy ride ahead, as the road is not the best, but - this adds to the natural charm and spirit of the adventure. 

Pantai Torok

Located between Selong Belanak and Serangan, Pantai Torok is one of the most peaceful beaches in the region. Backed by hills and some villas, it still offers a blend of raw nature and emerging comfort. The best part is when the roads are full of drying corn or tobacco - it adds that special local charm and reminds you this is Lombok, a place that in many ways, still lives in the past.

Why it's not to be missed:

1. Wide, quiet beach perfect for long walks
2. Great for South sunrise photography
3. Small bowl sand and local village surrounding

Torok remains a tranquil escape far from the crowds in local rural environment with a beach front resort AMBER, where you can grab some food.

Pantai Tomang Omang

You won’t find Pantai Tomang Omang in many guidebooks—and that’s exactly why it’s special. It's a hidden beach. This off-grid cove offers true solitude and breathtaking views. The area has newly arranged parking, few trees, a couple of rope swings and is usually completely empty.

Why it's not to be missed:

1. Newly arranged entrance but still zero crowds
2. Unspoiled nature and clear waters (but be careful swimming as rip currents can be strong)
3. Great spot for picnics and nature photography

A beach you can have all to yourself.  There are some warungs for refreshment.

Pantai Serangan

A favorite among surfers and locals alike, Pantai Serangan offers strong waves and dramatic scenery just a short drive from Selong Belanak. It's still relatively under the radar. It gives a spectacular view to the small island protruding from the waters off the coast of Selong Belanak Beach.

Why it's not to be missed:

1. Surf-friendly waves, especially during dry season
2. Photogenic view and nice exploration.
3. Local village vibe nearby with cows usually in good shadow.

Serangan is perfect for those who want a more authentic and raw beach experience, with the bonus of surfing. You can enjoy great food at Segara Lombok.

Local Tips

If you’re staying in Selong Belanak, you’re perfectly positioned to explore all of these beaches as they are only a 20 minute drive away. Even if you are staying in Kuta, these are best beaches near KUTA Lombok

And a few tips from someone who lives here:

1. Rent a scooter to explore the coast at your own pace
2. Bring cash—some beaches have small fees or local vendors (approx. 10.000 idr for a parking ticket, 150.000 for lunch, drinks and snacks)
3. Pack water, sunscreen, and a t-shirt to protect your skin
4. Take your trash with you - leave only your footprints.

Each beach has its own personality. Once you explore them, you’ll understand why people fall in love with this coastline and never really leave it behind.
